Khandwa is a city and nagarnigam in the Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is an ancient city and has numerous place of worship. The city has derived its name from “Khandav Van” that means Khandav forests. The place has an interesting history and quite much can be enriched if one desires to delve into the history of this region.
Coming to the present day this city proudly boasts to be the birthplace of super talented legendary actor-singer Kishore Kumar, his brothers Ashok Kumar and Amit Kumar. Among other notable residents of this region, it will be worthwhile to mention the names of Sheru Munshi Khan, Shaan the Bollywood singer, Makhanlal Chaturvedi, Hindi writer, and Dada Darbar Khandwa. Dadajidhuni wale temple-It is the famous place and it quite popular with the locals also. The architecture here is a masterpiece. It is the Samadhi of Shri Dadaji. A lot of devotees come here to pay their homage. Dadaji was considered as local diety and healed the sorrows of people. He was a spiritual guru. His teachings are based on the principles of Adyatma. There is a huge function organized here on the Guru Purnima, and the sight here is a visual treat.
Shri omkareshwar Jyotirlinga- It is a sacred place of worship for the Hindus. It is a calm and peaceful shrine of lord Shiva, situated in an island called Shivpuri on the banks of river Narmada. The beauty and purity of the place will leave you stunned and there is usually no queue here. This place has mythological significance and it is believed after paring a visit here one is bound to get success in life. It is also a belief that praying here is the synonym to praying at Kedarnath or the Panch Kedar. It is 85 km away from the Indore city and it would take 2 to 3 hours to reach here. Mamleshwar temple- Another sacred religious place of the city. The actual name is Amreshwar temple built in the honor of Lord Shiva. On daily basis, Lingarchan puja is performed here. It is one km away from the Omkareshwar temple and has beautiful architecture. The walls of the temple have inscriptions of MahimsStotra. It is believed if one does not visit this temple, then the visit to Omkareshwar is also incomplete.
Omkareshwar Parikrama- It is parikrama or going around the temple, it is believed that without Omkareshwar Parikrama the visit to Omkareshwar is not complete. It takes 2 to 3 hours to do the parikrama. The scenic beauty is breathtaking and the roads are comfortable for the parikrama. Lots of monkeys can be here thus one needs to also be careful of them. The parikrama also covers many small temples and there is Triveni Sangam at the midway. The parikrama will fill you with positive vibes.
AhilyaGhat- It is an ancient ghat and shows the love of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar in the worship of Lord Shiva and architecture. It is placed to get your click. It a ghat on the banks or river Narmada, and it has a very royal look. The place will give you high energy and the view of the rising sun is very welcoming here. You can bath here or even enjoy ride on the boat or simply sit and enjoy gazing at the beauty of the place.
